2026 “Yellowstone Bear Camp” May 16-24

Cost: $5895 double occupancy/Deposit $1500

Limited to 6 participants From Billings Montana

Spring in Yellowstone National Park is a time of rebirth.. The boiling hot pools, steaming geysers, dense concentrations of wildlife, a little fog to add mood, and the lack of crowds make this, perhaps, one of the most extraordinary times of year to visit. Bear activity is high in the spring and they are very visible. Mothers with cubs are out and the big males are searching for mates since its the peak of the breeding season We often see 10-15 bears in a single day. Since the wolf reintroduction in Yellowstone is now the premier location in the world to view wolves and be able to witness natural behavior. We may have opportunities to photograph them in the Hayden and Lamar Valleys.

We will also spend time photographing elk and calves, bighorn sheep, coyotes, moose, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, and perhaps even less seen inhabitants such as otters, pine marten, bald eagles, and trumpeter swans. We will be out each day from dawn to dusk in search of as many excellent nature and wildlife images as possible.

As with all wildlife photography there are never any guarantees but in the past we have had very good luck photographing wildlife at this time of year. This is sure to be a photographic adventure you’ll never forget

Due to winter flying conditions and possible delays it would be best to arrive a day early and overnight in Billings.  Pickup at Billings airport at will be at 11am.  You could also fly to Cody Wyoming. What to Bring

Equipment: We recommend a minimum of 400mm telephoto lens for this tour. A 600mm lens is better. In addition to a variety of wide angle and a mid range zoom lens will come in handy

Digital shooters will want to bring along a couple of flash cards and a means to download images when cards get full. We always suggest you bring along 2 camera bodies if possible in case of equipment failure. A sturdy tripod and a good ballhead or gimbal head is encouraged but many photographers these days tend to handhold their lenses and that is perfectly fine in most situations. Extra batteries for your camera are advised.

Clothing: Clothing should be comfortable and warm. Even in spring temperatures in Yellowstone can drop below freezing. I recommend layering your clothing. Good waterproof boots and light gloves are essential. Remember, since most of your body heat is lost through your head, warm headgear is a necessity. You should bring along some rain gear as well.
